With The Persistence Of Tensions And Conflicts In Various Parts Of The World, The International Community Must Never Forget What Happened At Hiroshima And Nagasaki, As A Warning And In Incentive To Develop Truly Effective And Peaceful Means Of Settling Tensions And Disputes. Fifty Years After The Second World War, The Leaders Of Nations Cannot Become Complacent But Rather Should Renew Their Commitment To Disarmament And To The Banishment Of All Nuclear Weapons.

I Hurry To Express To You And Your Fellow Citizens My Profound Sorrow And My Closeness In Prayer For The Nation At This Dark And Tragic Moment.

Lord Jesus, Who In The Eucharist Make Your Dwelling Among Us And Become Our Traveling Companion, Sustain Our Christian Communities So That They May Be Ever More Open To Listening And Accepting Your Word. May They Draw From The Eucharist A Renewed Commitment To Spreading In Society, By The Proclamation Of Your Gospel, The Signs And Deeds Of An Attentive And Active Charity

Modern Society Will Find No Solution To The Ecological Problem Unless It Takes A Serious Look At Its Lifestyle.
