I Have Often Wondered Whether A Person Is Justified In Neglecting His Own Family To Fight For Opportunities For Others.

In Africa There Is A Concept Known As 'ubuntu' - The Profound Sense That We Are Human Only Through The Humanity Of Others; That If We Are To Accomplish Anything In This World It Will In Equal Measure Be Due To The Work And Achievement Of Others.

Those South Africans Who Berate Me For Being Loyal To Our Friends, Literally They Can Go And Throw Themselves Into A Pool. I Am Not Going To Betray The Trust Of Those Who Helped Us.

Regarding African Education In This Country, There Was A Time When The Government Took No Interest Whatsoever In African Education. It Was The Churches, That Part Of Civil Society, Which Bought Land, Built Schools, And Employed And Paid Teachers. People Like Myself, Right From Grade Eight Up To University, I Was In Missionary Schools.

I Realized That They Could Take Everything From Me Except My Mind And My Heart. They Could Not Take Those Things. Those Things I Still Had Control Over. And I Decided Not To Give Them Away.
